R Bar
No matter what time you head to the R Bar, you’ll find this multi-purpose social hub is filled with life and activity. Bar Manager Anyanee Laokham sums it up well: “The R Bar is just fantastic because it has so much character”, she says. “What’s great is that it keeps this unique character as it transforms throughout the day.”
“In the morning everyone heads there for strong coffee and freshly-baked muffins and Danish pastries. Then throughout the day, guests have business meetings on the comfy sofas or just grab one of the private areas where they can work at their laptops. People pop in and out for lunch - we have a wonderful mix of European and Thai food - and afternoon tea. Then it comes to the evening and as the sun goes down the bar becomes a whole different thing again, with candlelight, entertainment, tapas and lots of wines and champagnes by the glass.”
The R Bar, which is decked out in attractive contemporary Asian style, has proved a hit with companies such as L'Oréal, Franck Muller, Lexus and Mercedes. When it’s not hosting major launch parties, it attracts a mix of businessmen and arty types. “It’s an interesting group of people and there’s always a buzz”, says Laokham. And what are they drinking? “Our most popular creation is the Bangkok Night cocktail” she says. “We use local Mekhong whisky mixed with banana liqueur, orange juice and fresh strawberries. It’s the perfect way to start your evening!”
